AS-ET ANNUAL LECTURES 2019

The AS-ET Trustees are pleased to announce the fifth annual lectures to be given in London and Manchester. The AS-ET lectures are given by eminent scientists who are leaders in their fields, and are aimed at a general audience so you will not need a detailed knowledge of the topic to enjoy them and they may also be of interest to members of your family.

The AS-ET Trustees would like to clarify a reference to free tickets for the AS-ET Lecture made in a recent email that you may have seen. We do have a very small number of free tickets to give to junior technical staff on application to contact@as-et.org.uk 

Sponsors of the lecture are also given a small number of free tickets to distribute as they wish. All other tickets are on sale for the very reasonable price of £10, which includes the wine reception after the lecture.

Professor Dame Frances Ashcroft DBE, BA, PhD, ScD, FRMedSci, FRS

Dame Frances’ research is concerned with the study of ion channels and their role in the release of insulin from the pancreas in response to rising blood sugar levels. The research group she leads has an international reputation for their work on insulin secretion, type II diabetes and neonatal diabetes.

 

She has received many honours and awards indicating the value of her work including:

  • Elected Fellow of the Royal Society

  • The Walter B Cannon Award of the American Physiological Society (the Societies highest honour)

  • The L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science

  • The Croonian Lecture and Medal of the Royal Society

  • Honorary Doctorates from several Universities including Cambridge

  • The award of DBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2015 for her services to Medical Science and the Public Understanding of Science

 

Dame Francis is an excellent speaker as her lectures on You Tube will illustrate, we are very grateful to have her as our 5th Annual Lecturer.
